What do these courses entail?
Physical Education Science Students develop specialised skills and abilities in exclusive sports over a semester. Foundation concepts in sports science are introduced with an emphasis on skill development, individual performance analysis and understanding how athletes improve outcomes in competitive sport situations. All aspects of this course provide students with a basic understanding of the requirements needed in senior school Physical Education Studies courses. Topics covered include: Functional anatomy, Biomechanics, Motor learning and Coaching, Lawn bowls, Golf, and Gaelic football. Outdoor Education Enjoyment and adventure in the outdoors are part of our heritage and the Australian environment offers a perfect venue in which to be able to fulfil these desires. As our society continues to emphasise the importance of understanding and respecting our unique environment, the trend towards challenge, exploration and travel in our great outdoors has increased. Those students interested in the environment and operating within it will find the insights gained from this course very rewarding. Topics covered will include: Archery, Bushwalking, Martial Arts and Sailing. Many of these activities are conducted in the natural environment and conducted off campus. These include a half-day excursion to the Gooralong Park Trail in the Serpentine National Park and a half-day excursion sailing the waters of Mangles Bay. Personal, Social & Community Health NOTE: Single gender classes The course content develops the knowledge, understanding and skills to support students to be resilient. It also enables students to access and understand health information and empowers them to make healthy, safe and active choices. Students will also develop skills that help them apply new information to changing circumstances and environments that influence their own and others’ health, safety and wellbeing. The course also supports students to selectively access information, products, services and environments to take action to promote the health and wellbeing of their communities. Movement & Physical Activity NOTE: Single gender classes Students will apply movement concepts and strategies to enhance their performance and move with competence and confidence. While participating in physical activities, students will analyse and evaluate theories, techniques and strategies that can be used to understand and enhance their quality of movement and physical activity performance. They will explore the place and meaning of physical activity, outdoor recreation and sport in their own lives, whilst experiencing the varied roles within organised sport and recreation.
