“One thing I love about RE is that you get to learn about different perspectives on social issues that will make you realise what morals you should stand by, because anyone can have good intentions but not fully understand the issue.”
What does the course entail?
It is important for students to recognise that their results in Year 10 Religious Education may have a significant influence on options and pathways for subject selection in Year 11 and 12. All students at the College must study Religion and Life either at an ATAR or a General level in their final years at the College. These courses are externally assessed (by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority), therefore, the Year 10 Course and Assessments are designed with this preparation in mind. MY PURPOSE Year 10 students explore the concept and importance of vocation. The program will explore all facets of vocation, including religious vocation, layperson vocations and the call to use our God given gifts in the way we lead our lives. There is particular emphasis and inspiration drawn from the vocation of Jesus and His call to carry out His mission. TRUE FREEDOM Students will investigate the search for freedom and the way in which freedom, or the lack of, influences the way people are able to make moral choices. The course will explore how Christians believe God wants humankind to be free and the ways Christians believe God has communicated His desire for humans to be free through the scriptures and the covenants. LISTENING TO GOD Students will have the opportunity to explore and examine their conscience and learn and discover new ways to inform their conscience. The course will expose students to both Catholic and other ethical teachings, as well as the challenges they may face in making ethical or conscience based decisions in the future. SEEKING JUSTICE Finally, students will look at the topic of justice in the world, in particular the role we each play in restoring justice. This will see students realise the message of justice contained in the Gospels and also the teachings and doctrines published by the Church in the pursuit of social justice throughout the world. |
