"In Science, we did an investigation into Newton's Laws of Motion. We got to play with cars and made crash test dummies out of Play-Doh. It was hands on and fun!"
What does the course entail?
|
Students in Science in Year 10 will be given an opportunity for extension as well as continuing with mainstream science. Mainstream science will cater for most students. Those students wishing to study Human Biology or Psychology ATAR in Year Eleven must maintain a grade of 70% or above. Students who wish to study Physics and Chemistry ATAR in Year Eleven will benefit more from being in Extension science. Extension science works to extend students to some of the content they will deal with in ATAR Science Courses. Students must maintain a grade of 65%+ to be able to continue with an ATAR Science. CHEMISTRY Students will describe how the periodic table organises elements and uses it to make predictions about types of bonding. They predict the effect of changing reactant and reaction conditions and use chemical equations to predict the products of reactions. BIOLOGY Students will describe the processes that underpin heredity and predict the outcome of autosomal dominant/recessive crosses. They describe the processes that underpin the theory of evolution by natural selection. PHYSICS Students will recall Newton’s laws of motion and apply them to predict motion of objects in a system. They describe the concept of energy conservation and represent energy transfer and transformations within system. EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCES Students will learn to sequence key events in the formation of stars, galaxies and solar systems and describe the benefits of space exploration. |
