"In Science, we did an investigation into Newton's Laws of Motion. We got to play with cars and made crash test dummies out of Play-Doh. It was hands on and fun!"
What does the course entail?
Students in Science in Year 10 will be split into pathways. These pathways are designed to ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve success. Mainstream science will cater for most students. Those students wishing to study Human Biology or Psychology ATAR in Year Eleven must maintain a grade of 70% and above. Students who wish to study Physics and Chemistry ATAR in Year Eleven will benefit more from being in Extension science. Extension science works to extend students to some of the content they will deal with in ATAR Science Courses. Students must maintain a grade of 65%+ to be able to continue with an ATAR Science. CHEMISTRY Students develop their understanding of atomic theory to understand the relationships within the periodic table. They will look at different types of chemical reactions and their products and understand how they occur at different rates. BIOLOGY Students will learn about the transmission of heritable characteristics from one generation to the next. They will examine the theory of evolution by natural selection, looking for evidence and its consequences on the diversity of living things. PHYSICS Students understand that motion and forces are related by applying the laws of physics. They will explain how energy transfers and transformations can explain energy conservation within a system. EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCES Students will learn about the relationships between aspects of the living, physical and chemical world that are applied to systems on a local and global scale. We will also cover the evidence surrounding the Big Bang. |
