"We got to have lessons four times a week and had more freedom in our projects. It's a great introduction into the possibilities for Year 11 and 12 art, being able to explore and develop new skills."
What do these courses entail?
Visual Art It is highly desirable to complete at least the Visual Art course in Year 10 before embarking upon Visual Art ATAR or General courses. Year 10 Visual Art has been developed as a stepping stone to the senior ATAR/General courses, but this does not limit the course to those who are just interested in pursuing their fine arts development. Within this course, you will focus on projects that develop themes that give you some freedom of creative interpretation but also some guidelines to help continue to build your fundamental art skills and understanding and knowledge of art history and art styles. You will work in both 2-dimensional artworks, developing your drawing skills along with colour mixing and theory, and 3-dimensional artworks, building on sculpture skills and understanding form. A self driven course of personal development and research, you will engage in visual arts practice, involving the exploration and development of ideas through the use of a range of art techniques and processes. Visual Arts areas include, but are not limited to; drawing, collage, watercolours and/or acrylic painting, printmaking, mixed media, clay building works and more. |
Media Art In Year 10 Media Arts, we explore in-depth the way media work is constructed in different contexts and how it can be used to reflect or challenge the values of an audience. You will respond to and produce your own media across a range of formats, including music videos, advertising, documentary and film. While building your critical thinking skills, this unit is also hands-on, allowing you to unite your creative flair with relevant technological skills. You will work both independently and in collaborative teams on practical media projects, using DSLR and video cameras, as well as Adobe programs to edit your footage and audio into seamless productions. This course will help prepare students for Media Arts programs in years 11 and 12. “We created a music video and a short film. We used the Adobe Premiere Pro to edit our footage and used Adobe After Effects to make our own special effects to add to our productions.” |
