"Learning Italian is an incredible experience and an awesome opportunity to engross ourselves in another culture. Studying Italian is not only enjoyable, but also rewarding."
What do these courses entail?
Italian Through the study of the Italian language students are exposed to cultural diversity and gain a greater understanding of the contributions made by the Italian community in Australia. The College, also has direct links to Italy, with a long established exchange program, offered, in conjunction with, our sister school the Liceo Classico Properzio d’Assisi. With the increasing number of Australians travelling to Europe and Europeans visiting Australia, many are recognising the usefulness of proficiency in another language. This is a semester course which acknowledges the skills and abilities of those students who have prior experience with Italian, while catering for those students who are new to the language. The content of the course incorporates linguistic and cultural interactions for the purpose of nourishing students’ perception and appreciation of cultural diversity. By the end of this course, students will be able to communicate their name, age, birthdate, address, nationality, physical description and personality traits. They will also demonstrate the vocabulary for greetings, numbers, days of the week, months of the year and adjectives. The content of this course will be balanced in the four key areas of speaking, writing, reading and listening. This course will prepare them for further studies in Italian. |
Japanese Within the College community, Japanese has continued to grow with a high level of enrolment and retention. Through a study of the Japanese language, students are exposed to the cultural differences and gain a greater understanding of Japanese people. With strong support from the College, successful partnerships and links have been formed with schools in Japan. Consequently, a thriving exchange program has been established and students who study Japanese in Year 11 are invited to attend a tour of Japan. Through immersion in the Japanese culture, students acquire a greater grasp of the language. This is a semester course which enables every student to have a first-hand experience studying Japanese during their first year at Kolbe. The content of the course incorporates linguistic and cultural interactions in order to nourish students’ perception and appreciation towards a diversity of languages and cultures. |
