"My teacher takes the time to find out how I learn. This has made a difficult subject a lot easier and I am now getting good grades."
What does the course entail?
The Year 7 Mathematics course is designed to cater for a range of mathematical backgrounds and enhance the numeracy skills developed throughout the primary school years. Students working below their year level are identified, and further developed with focussed intervention so that their individual needs can best be met. Students are encouraged to think and reason mathematically, and not just perform routine procedures. Students use ideas about numbers, algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability and mathematical ways of representing patterns and relationships to describe, interpret and reason about their social and physical world. Summative assessments take place in the form of tests and investigations. In Years 8 to 10 at Kolbe Catholic College, pathways are offered in Mathematics to better cater for individual learning needs. Students are placed into one of three pathways in Year 8 Mathematics according to their mathematical ability demonstrated in Year 7. |
