​Humanities and Social Science

"I really liked when we learnt about the medieval period. We got to find out about how they did things back then like making castles, going into battle and fighting off the terrible plagues. It was very interesting to learn about this harsh time in history."

What does the course entail?

Humanities and Social Sciences consists of four inter-related disciplines: Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business, Geography and History.

Concepts covered will include:
  • Participating in Australia's democratic system.
  • Understanding the true history of European Colonisation of Australia and the impact this had on the First Nation peoples.
  • Creation and enforcement of laws.
  • Types of markets and how these markets operate.
  • Types of business and the way we work.
  • Formation of different types of landforms
  • Natural hazards - geomorphic and atmospheric
  • Urbanisation and the impacts of urbanisation
  • The Middle Ages
  • The Black Death

Underpinned in the development of essential knowledge, are associated skills such as inquiry, analytical, evaluation and communication skills.
The courses are designed to not only develop skills associated with Humanities, but also to help improve the literacy and numeracy skills of the cohort.
