WHAT DO THE COURSES ENTAIL IN Home Economics?

Food Specialisation
In this course, students learn how healthy and sustainable food choices influence the way meals are prepared and cooked. They explore how different foods behave during cooking and how this affects the final result. Through hands-on cooking activities, students build skills in kitchen safety, food hygiene, knife handling, reading and following recipes, and time management. They also begin to understand the importance of nutrition and making informed food choices in everyday life.
Materials and Technologies Specialisation (Textiles)
In this course, students learn how to design and create textile products that meet a specific need, such as fashion, function, or sustainability. They explore how the choice of fabric, tools, and techniques can impact the quality and success of their project. Throughout the course, students develop skills in hand and machine sewing, following a pattern, measuring and cutting fabric accurately, and using specialised equipment safely. They also begin to plan, problem-solve, and evaluate their designs to improve outcomes.
