What do these courses entail?

Dance The Arts Dance course has a strong practical focus, challenging students’ artistic and physical abilities. Students work in a variety of dance genres, including jazz, street and hip-hop. Courses in both semesters feature at least one public performance, giving students the opportunity to connect with the community. Beginner and experienced dancers are encouraged to enrol in the Arts Dance course and will be equally challenged. The emphasis is on having fun, increasing confidence and learning new skills that can enhance other areas of study. Such as teamwork, problem solving, flexibility, creativity and attention to detail. Music The Music course is open to all students of any experience level and students previously involved in specialist classes. Students learn the elements of music through performing: singing, ukulele, percussion and using technology as an instrument. Students who undertake tuition on additional instruments will also advance their technical skill level through class tasks. By creating simple songs and listening to a wide variety of music, students develop an understanding of how music works. All students who chose to take part in this course are also highly encouraged to strengthen their abilities by taking part in extra-curricular ensembles and regular instrument tuition. |
Drama The Drama course is open to all students who may or may not have experienced Drama classes in the past. The course challenges students to create original pieces in groups, performing in class and in the wider College community. Assessments will be based on participation in group performances, both as an actor and a designer, involvement in workshop activities and the writing of reflective responses. Students will also be encouraged to view and reflect on live performances in the wider community. The specific focus for Year 8 Drama is working with a Script through Improvisation - Students will investigate the specific acting techniques and skills used in Children's Theatre in order to create a stage performance. Courses in both semesters feature at least one public performance, which will be open to the parents to view giving the students opportunities to develop their performance experience. Music Scholarship Year Long Course This is a year-long course with admission by application. Activities include solo performances, creating original music and exploring music technology. Students must undertake formal study of an instrument, or voice, outside of this class time. Students are expected to participate in at least one College Music Ensemble (band, choir, etc.) The class will meet twice each week, Tuesday 3.15pm - 4.10pm and Thursday 7.45am - 8.25am. |
