WHAT DO THE COURSES ENTAIL IN VISUAL ART?

WHAT DO THE COURSES ENTAIL IN Media ART?

Studio Focus
Arts provide a powerful means of expression and communication of life experiences and imagination. Within this course, you will focus on 2-dimensional artworks with an element of 3-dimensional work built into your projects. A self driven course of personal development and research, you will engage in visual arts practice, involving the exploration and development of ideas and feelings through the use of a range of art techniques and processes.
Project Studio areas include but are not limited to; pastel work, watercolours and/or acrylic painting, silk screening, lino-printing, etching and mixed media works.
Sculpture Design
Do you enjoy a hands on approach to your creative work? Do you want to develop your creative skills when it comes to taking a 2-dimensional design and turning it into a 3-dimensional product? Then this course might just be for you! This course places value on difference, uniqueness and individuality, developing creative abilities and gaining a greater understanding of the artistic world around us.
Whilst Sculpture Design has a 3 - dimensional emphasis, drawing is a compulsory component of all successful art projects. You will further develop your understanding of the elements and principles of art and develop an understanding of how to make ‘good art’.
Sculpture Design projects could include materials such as ceramics (hand-building, casting), textiles, sculpture (soft sculpture, wood and plaster) constructions in metal, plastic, wood, cardboard and fabric.
Media
Are you a film fanatic? Or do you want to learn how to make a horror film soundtrack? Year 9 Media Arts is a semester-long elective subject that lets you flex your creativity, while learning practical skills in media production. Investigate the viewpoints of international media work, and explore how audiences interact with media. This unit works across the media types of film and TV, sound production, image and video editing. You will extend your planning and problem-solving skills, working both independently and as a team to follow timelines and responsibly use media equipment and Adobe editing programs.
Photography
Have a keen eye for photography? Or want to learn how to use a DSLR camera? This semester-long Media Arts unit focuses on digital photography and post-production skills for the budding amateur photographer. With opportunities to hone your compositional skills, you will learn how to take creative and impactful photographs. You will also learn about design elements such as lighting and colour, exploring how to use these in photo shoots, and practice retouching images in Adobe Photoshop.

“This year we were able to explore film and look at blockbuster movies. We created a trailer for a movie by flipping the genre. It was great learning to edit and add sound effects.”

Annual Art Exhibition - forge

Every year we showcase the talents of our amazing Year 7-12 artists, displaying their works from Visual Art, Media Art, Woodwork Metalwork and Design.
The Exhibition is open for a week and a half and is celebrated with an open evening and awards night, supported by the hospitality students and their cooking and serving skills, providing refreshments for all guests.

Note: When opportunities exist, special projects such as Community Art, Competitions and School based activities will be incorporated into the curriculum.
