Numeracy Intervention aims to provide targeted intervention for students identified as being significantly behind their year level in Mathematics. At the commencement of Year 7, students are tested using a standardised test known as the Progressive Achievement Test in Mathematics - Pat M. Information is also gathered through their primary school reports, observations within the classroom and the results of Year 7 course assessments early in Term 1.
Students identified will be placed on an enrichment program, so as to address numeracy gaps, with an aim to enable every student to achieve their full potential. The enrichment program builds on the assumptions that all students can learn and sets high standards that apply to all learners while acknowledging the different rates at which students develop. Thus, wherever possible students will follow the year level Western Australian course, at the modified standard. This will also provide an opportunity to demonstrate competence in some areas within the year level Western Australian course as they develop skills in others.

Year 7
Intervention in Year 7 will be structured to suit the individual and the resources available. These may include but are not limited to;
|
Years 8 and 9
Student progress is reviewed at the end of the previous year. Students will either be placed on an enrichment program or into Pathway 1 if they have improved significantly but are still behind their year level. Intervention is designed to cater for individual needs by offering an adjusted curriculum and a smaller class size. Resources may include:
|
Year 10
Like in Year 8 and 9, Year 10 have pathway 1 and enrichment to support our students.
OLNA
To support our students required to sit the OLNA numeracy component, we have a google site containing podcasts, worksheets, solutions and support material, that is specifically to prepare our students numeracy skills: https://sites.google.com/a/kolbe.wa.edu.au/olna-numeracy/home
Students are able to print worksheets for themselves or they can ask their mathematics teacher for the booklets. Students are encouraged to seek help from their mathematics teachers with these booklets and by attending Wednesday after school tutoring, which has the mathematics teachers in attendance.
